How we helped the hotel just after the pandemic to the best numbers in history.

Client Introduction

Hotel Zochova chata **** has been in existence since 1933 and today is especially sought after by lovers of relaxation and first-class gastronomy. The hotel is located in the beautiful surroundings of the forests of the Little Carpathians, in the wine-growing region of Modra, only 34 kilometres from Bratislava. We have identified the hotel’s primary target group as upper-middle class customers seeking travel and wellness stays.

The brief

During the pandemic, the hotel industry suffered huge losses. Compared to pre-pandemic 2019, hotel sales in Slovakia during 2020 from foreign tourists dropped by 62% and from domestic tourists by 35%.

When we were approached by wellness hotel Zochova chata**** to help them get back on their feet after the pandemic, we didn’t hesitate for a moment. We devised a strategy to help the hotel outperform its non-crown 2019 accommodation revenue by at least 30%.

But we managed to do much more!

Goals

  1. Exceed Google Ads revenue by at least 30%
  2. Achieve total site revenue within a predetermined amount.
    To match the total revenue in the best year of 2019.

 

Strategy

We have identified the hotel’s primary target group as upper middle class customers from Western Slovakia who are looking for travel and wellness stays. When creating the strategy, we therefore had to choose keywords that are as close as possible to this target group. We avoided words like “discount machine”, “cheap hotel”, etc. The hotel’s target group is primarily adult customers, so we excluded words like “family holiday” or “holiday with children”. 

Based on thorough research, we decided to include words that are relevant to the target group in the advertising texts. We used adjectives such as ‘luxury’, ‘exclusive’ or ‘suitable for adults’. When creating the strategy, we decided to divide the best performing words into separate groups. We also promoted the hotel’s events and short-term promotions through search campaigns (weddings, conferences, New Year’s Eve staycations, etc.). 

Finally, we incorporated keywords into text ads for maximum relevancy. We carefully monitored the quality score of each keyword. We divided the words that scored well into separate groups and created more specific ad texts for them.

 

Ideamaking

We’ve divided the top words into exact matches and into separate ad groups. We designed responsive ads that ran throughout the year. We placed the keywords in banner ads and created a website that aimed to motivate visitors to holiday in Slovakia. As part of the strategy, we used ad extensions and our keyword optimizer tool. We developed this tool ourselves and it serves us to save time when optimizing keywords. The KeyWord Optimizer analyzes recurring search terms and gives us a quick overview of which words are performing well. We presented those words that achieved high PNOs (cost-per-turnover ratios) to the client and then worked with their appearance on the site.

Results

 

We beat our revenue target from Google Ads by 113%. We increased revenue from ad campaigns by 298%.

Our strategy exceeded all of our client’s expectations and goals and helped them achieve a new record in total revenue. The success of our campaign earned us a silver award in the Global Search Awards – a prestigious global competition that highlights innovative and creative approaches to PPC, SEO and content marketing across sectors. We are the only Slovak agency to have won this award in the category.
